Founded in 1971 by Zoologist Ralph T. Heath.

For over 40 years, the Sanctuary has been dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured birds with the goal of their eventual release back into nature.

The Sanctuary is world renowned for its rehabilitation techniques, and was the first facility to breed Eastern Brown Pelicans in captivity.

The Sanctuary is staffed by experienced professionals and dedicated volunteers who all share the same love and compassion for the birds they care for.

Display areas at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary feature permanently injured birds that have been given a home at the sanctuary. Any offspring they produce are eventually released back into their natural environment. At any given time, visitors can view in excess of 400 wild birds. So come and visit our wild bird sanctuary and see how we help injured birds.

Please help us help our birds by donating to our
"Get New Netting" fund:

The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary currently has ten pens that house hundreds of permanently disabled birds. The netting on the Sanctuary's pens are old and full of holes. The holes allow many healthy, wild birds to come in and take the food meant for the injured birds. The money raised here will be used to fix and replace the old torn netting with new, more durable netting. This will save a lot of money with bait and food and will keep the injured bird safe.
